What is ArtsVan?
The Allied Arts Summer ArtsVan Project is a FREE, DROP IN PROGRAM which provides Yakima Valley children an opportunity to explore the possibilities of the arts and discover their creative side. ArtsVan and its talented staff of artists have been providing a focused arts program for children since 1985. Children will discover uses for materials found at home so that they may repeat and expand on the lessons learned and add their own style. Arts Van is designed for children ages 5 to 12. Summer ArtsVan is sponsored by Yakima Southwest Rotary and Yakima Parks & Recreation.

SUMMARY:Poetry Out Loud Workshop for Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Washington State Arts Commission, ESD 105, and Allied Arts are hosting a
Poetry Out Loud Workshop for high school teachers.
The workshop will be held at ESD 105 on August 19 and
will focus on how to become comfortable with the teaching of poetry. In the
workshop participants will focus on how to read poetry closely for meaning
and how to teach poems so that students begin to embrace this art form.
This is a good workshop for those teachers who would like to hone their
skills in preparing their students for the Poetry Out Loud competition which
asks students to memorize and recite poems that they have selected from an
anthology of poems, however, teachers in the workshop are certainly not
required to participate in the Poetry Out Loud competition. The only
requirement is an interest in poetry as well as an enthusiasm and
willingness to learn.
If you are interested in this workshop, please contact Jessica Moskwa, the
director of Allied Arts, at jessica@alliedartsyakima.org by June 10.
Please let us know if you need clock hours and we will make every effort to
accommodate you.\n\nPowered by YakimaValley.net

SUMMARY:Fresh Hop Ale Fest
DESCRIPTION:Visit www.freshhopalefestival.com for more info!
As one of the most unique events in the Northwest, the Fresh Hop Ale Festival of Yakima, WA, is the place to be as night falls on October 4th, 2008!
Besides the excitement of a dozen microbreweries in attendance, live rock n’ roll music and local food and wine, the festival’s premise is specific and unusual. Brewers must get Yakima hops (which provide aroma and flavor to beer) from the vine to the vat within 24 hours to create the headlining ale.
This year marks the 5th year of this festival! Not only is the festival a great event, but it is also an important fundraiser for Allied Arts. \n\nPowered by YakimaValley.net
